A Metso-supplied fine paper machine delivered to Fujian Nanping Paper Co., Ltd. in Nanping, Fujian Province, China successfully started up on October 9, 2009. The new PM 6 has a wire width of 5.8 m and a design speed of 1,400 m/min, producing close to 800 tonnes of uncoated fine paper per day.

Metso's delivery included a complete paper machine from headbox to reel, featuring ValFormer forming technology, and process and quality control systems.

"Our company was the first in the world to install a Metso OptiConcept machine. PM 5 started up in Nanping ten years ago. Now our excellent co-operation continues in the PM 6 project. Engineering, installation and testing of the paper machine were finished ahead of schedule with high quality. The machine was able to produce saleable paper almost immediately after start-up. Speed is now 1,100 m/min and it will be increased continuously during optimization. We are already very satisfied with the quality of the paper grades produced. With this flexible concept, even some low basis weight grades have already been produced," summarizes Lin Xiaobang, General Manager, Nanping paper mill.

Fujian Nanping Paper is one of the largest paper producers in the Fujian province. The company now operates four paper machines at the Nanping mill site with an annual paper making capacity of around 550,000 tonnes.
