In 2013, PT Cikarang Listrindo Tbk, the longest operating Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Indonesia, bought two 140 MWe coal-fired Valmet CFB Boilers, a plant-wide Valmet DNA automation and information management system.

In 2019, they conducted a combustion trial using Palm Kernel Shells (PKS) as biomass fuel in conjunction with coal. The success in trials led to a project to modify one of the CFB units suitable for continuous biomass co-firing. PTCL has also conducted a feasibility study for alternative biofuels like wood chips and rice husk.

This breakthrough is part of the company’s commitment to develop an environmentally friendly power business, which is expected to create sustainable energy management that will be passed on to future generations.

The most important factors for the company in the modification project decision were the investment cost, the duration of the modification and its technical quality. The company believes in Valmet’s capability and decided to undertake the project based on Valmet’s offering. This is a big step toward greener energy production for the plant.
