Valmet is supplying a power boiler and flue gas cleaning equipment to Progroup Power 2 in Sandersdorf-Brehna, Germany. It is a turnkey delivery including engineering, procurement and construction (EPC).
With our modern BFB boiler, the customer is able to phase out fossil fuel and instead utilize biomass and waste from their paper mill. At the same time the mill will produce lower emissions and boost the circular economy in its paper production.
“We’re very proud to be awarded this contract. We’ve had a long and good relationship with the customer in developing the concept, and this relationship will now continue through this project. It’s always a joy to work with a competent customer, and we will now be able to show Valmet’s expertise to meet the customer’s expectations,” says Aleksi Salmirinne, Vice President, Energy Business Unit, Valmet.
Valmet’s delivery includes a Valmet BFB Boiler, featuring bubbling fluidized bed technology. The boiler, with a 115 MW fuel capacity, will run on residues and sludge from the company’s adjoining paper mill, as well as biogas and refuse-derived fuel (RDF) sourced from the market. The boiler will produce 146.7 t/h of steam to generate electricity and to be utilized at the paper mill.
The delivery also includes Valmet’s flue gas cleaning technology, consisting of burners, a Valmet Electrostatic Precipitator, a Valmet Bag House Filter and a Valmet Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) solution.
“At the moment layout and steel structure engineering, as well as procurement and final equipment specifications are underway.
It is a pleasure to work with this customer and its consultants, they are very cooperative and solution oriented,”
says Tapani Nummelin, Project Manager, Recovery Business Unit, Valmet.
The power plant’s handover is scheduled for the end of 2025.
