Customer case:

Cooperl measures water content and sludge dryness with Valmet TS

Apr 27, 2021

Cooperl in France has two Valmet Total Solids Measurements (Valmet TS) to measure both water content in animal oil as well as animal manure and sludge dryness. The varying process conditions are challenging with high temperatures, changing dryness, and high conductivity but Valmet TS has provided good results in both applications.

Valmet TS is the first measurement tested that gives good results for process selection after the first treatment.
François-Marie Faucon, Biofuel Plant Manager, Cooperl, Lamballe
The use and calibration of Valmet TS are quite intuitive. The expected accuracy is achieved.

Summary

Location Lamballe, France
Customer target To measure water content in animal oil or grease for further process selection, and to separately measure animal manure and sludge dryness for further process treatment and invoices.
Solution Two Valmet Total Solids Measurements (Valmet TS), a Flow Through model installed in the process feed, and a Twin Blade sensor model installed in the process after needle pump.
Benefits

Water content measurement:

  • It is important to select the next process depending on the water content in oil or grease. Too low grease content would affect production efficiency

Animal manure and sludge dryness measurement:

  • Measurement is important to optimize process (incinerator or biogas plant)
  • In the near future, batch values will be used for suppliers’ invoices
