UPM-Kymmene Oyj Wisapaper in Pietarsaari, Finland selected Metso Paper to deliver an extensive roll handling system. The new system will be delivered to the PM 1 line that produces bag and sack paper and liner at an annual capacity of 160.000 tons.

The roll handling delivery consists of the connecting conveyors from the winder to wrapping and warehouse. Short pitch slat conveyors, kickers and cushion stops use SmartTouch technology for less mechanical stress to roll top layers. The robotized StreamLine roll wrapper is furnished with head insertion robots. Each sequence of the wrapping process is automated, from the identification station through wrapping, bilge labeling and marking, header pressing until end labeling.

The wrapping station employs the TopPack wrapping method in which rolls receive one, two or three wraps, depending on roll width. The conveyor system lowers rolls down to the warehouse level by means of an electric driven lowerator. The layout configuration at the warehouse employs sorting pockets, a special arrangement for extremely wide rolls and an upending line to speed up clamp truck handling. The maximum roll width is 4.3 meters at 6 tons of weight.
