The rebuild of the PM 1 of Mondi Packaging Swiecie S.A. in Poland came on stream successfully on June 4, 2007. As a result of the rebuild, the sack paper machine was converted for kraftliner and sack paper production. The rebuilt PM 1 has a capacity of 180,000 tpy, and it produces light weight kraftliner, extra top liner grades and sack paper grades.

Metso modernized the PM 1 wet end with a new dilution-controlled OptiFlo II headbox and an OptiFormer upgrade of the forming section. The rebuild enables Mondi Packaging to supply extra tonnage in the fast-growing segment of lightweight kraftliners.

"Thanks to all people involved, the start-up was very smooth and 3 days ahead of schedule, and it produced saleable paper right from the first reel," says Mondi’s project manager Maciej Janeczek.
