The 26th consecutive Metso Pulp and Paper Technology Days, now arranged for the first time in Central Europe, attracted a wide audience. A total of 270 pulp, paper and board makers gathered in Munich, Germany on October 29-30 to take advantage of the two-day program featuring latest developments, future technologies and services for the pulp and paper industry. In all, 160 companies and 32 countries were represented, Asia and America included.

“Considering the challenging times of the branch, the high number of seminar attendees can be seen as a convincing indication of a change for the better. It is also a clear sign that mills and corporations are actively looking for new ideas and solutions for enhancing and improving their processes”, remarks Ilkka Hiirsalmi, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, of Metso’s Paper and Fiber Technology segment.

The event consisted of a full-day technical seminar of six sessions, and reference visits to Plattling Papier PM 1 in Plattling (high-quality SC-A paper) and Papierfabrik Palm PM 6 in Wörth (containerboard grades).

The technical sessions covered paper and board making, pulp production, chemical recovery and energy production, together with related services and automation solutions. The presentations especially focused on issues of energy and environmental efficiency. Out of the 40 presentations in all, ten were given by pulp and paper makers themselves, giving examples of solutions that have contributed to productivity and competitiveness.

Metso’s Pulp and Paper Technology Days is an annual event that was held in Shanghai, China in 2008 and in Atibaia, Brazil in 2007.
