PM 6 at Papierfabrik Palm in Wörth, Germany continues to set new records. In April this year it reached an amazing daily production output of 2,201 tons, which exceeds all earlier containerboard production records, and puts it in the forefront of containerboard making today. PM 6, supplied in 2002 by Metso Paper, produces testliner of 90 to 140 g/m², corrugating medium of 80 to 130 g/m² and Schrenz of 70 to 120 g/m². The current production level gives the mill an annual output of over 600,000 tons.

Papierfabrik Palm's 10.3-m-wide giant PM 6 today runs at an average speed of 1,362 m/min, having reached a 24-hour record speed of 1,511 m/min in late 2006. The machine line not only exhibits excellent runnability, but also produces all grades with top quality. In terms of capacity, PM 6 has reached hourly production figures of up to 10 tons per meter, which is far above others in this class.

The Metso-supplied complete 2,000 tpd recycled fiber lines, and stock preparation, broke and approach systems, are also performing according to strict quality and capacity demands. Due to the highly efficient screening and sticky reduction, the mill is able to use dirtier and less expensive raw material. The customer is very satisfied with the low reject rate.

Dr. Wolfgang Palm, CEO of Papierfabrik Palm, is pleased with the outstanding production figures, resulting from optimization of the PM 6 performance by Metso Paper together with Papierfabrik Palm. The emphasis has been on machine cleanliness and on actions to maintain good runnability at very high speeds and low basis weights. The belt life of the shoe press is also excellent today. Close development co-operation continues as the demand for lighter basis weights steadily grows, and there are plans to further increase production.

Papierfabrik Palm is one of Europe's most skilled users of recycled fiber with experience dating back to its establishment in 1872. The company employs 700 people at three mills. Its annual production capacity is 850,000 tons of paper for corrugated board and 580,000 tons of newsprint.

Metso is a global engineering and technology corporation with 2006 net sales of approximately EUR 5 billion. Its 25,500 employees in more than 50 countries serve customers in the pulp and paper industry, rock and minerals processing, the energy industry and selected other industries. www.metso.com
