Metso Paper's fiber line technology selected for pulp mill modernization at Ust-Ilimsk, Russia

The Russian pulp and paper company, Ilim Pulp Enterprise, will modernize the fiber line no. 2 at the Ust-Ilimsk pulp mill in the Irkutsk region of Siberia. The investment will increase the softwood line production from 850 tpd up to 1200 tpd, and will also improve the pulp quality. Metso Paper was selected to supply the new knotting, screening and washing equipment. In addition, Metso Paper will deliver engineering, training, as well as supervision of erection and start-up.

The main process machinery for knotting and screening features Metso Paper's Delta technology. A new type of a TwinRoll wash press will be installed to improve pulp washing. The equipment delivery will take place at the end of 2005 and the start-up is scheduled for the first half of 2006.

The Ust-Ilimsk pulp mill is part of JSC PO Ust-Ilimsk Wood Industrial Complex, a huge timber-processing unit. The mill on the Angara river is located 5000 km east of Moscow, and produces bleached softwood Kraft pulp with two lines which were originally commissioned in the early 1980's.
