Metso Paper will modernize a complete pulp drying line at Votorantim Celulose e Papel's (VCP) Jacareí mill in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The rebuild covers all process stages from screening to cutter. The order value is approximately EUR 10 million and the rebuilt line is scheduled to start up in July 2006. The order further strengthens Metso Paper's leading position in the pulp drying technology in South America.

Metso Paper's turn-key delivery will rebuild the pulp drying line JE-2 into a copy of the JE-3 line which was partly rebuilt by Metso Paper in the autumn 2005. The earlier rebuild helped to increase Jacareí mill's annual production of eucalyptus pulp, and the modernization of the JE-2 line will further increase it.

Biggest modifications take place at the pulp drying machine's headbox, wet end, dry end and cutter-layboy. The existing headbox will be modified to a fully automatic dilution headbox to improve the control of basis weight profile in the machine cross direction. The existing former part will be rebuilt and an MB-former added on the fourdrinier part. New steam and suction boxes and a suction couch roll will be installed to improve sheet dryness profile in cross direction. At the dry end, the existing airborne dryer will be modernized and a new pulper installed.

Votorantim Celulose e Papel is one of the leading companies of Brazil in the pulp and paper industry. The company has own eucalyptus forests to produce wood for integrated pulp and paper production at the Jacareí and Luis Antonio mills as well as for paper production at the Piracicaba and Mogi das Cruzes mills. VCP is owned by Grupo Votorantim.

Metso is a global engineering and technology corporation with 2004 net sales of approximately EUR 4 billion. Its 22 000 employees in more than 50 countries serve customers in the pulp and paper industry, rock and minerals processing, the energy industry and selected other industries. www.metso.com
