Metso Paper will supply a board making line to the Sun Paper Industry Group in China. The new line has been designed for the manufacture of art board and liquid packaging board and is scheduled to start up in October 2003. The value of the order is somewhat less than 25 MEUR. This is the second board machine delivery to the same customer in two years.

In addition to delivering a new board machine (BM 18), Metso Paper will also supply five ValCoat coating stations, OptiHard and OptiSoft calenders and a broke handling system. The machine will be 3.75 m wide and its running speed will be 550 m/min. It will produce 150-350 g/m2 board and will have an annual production capacity of approx. 200,000 t (250 g/m2).

Participating in Metso Paper’s delivery are its Valmet-Xian joint venture in China and units operating in Finland and Sweden.

Metso Paper’s previous delivery to Sun Paper was also implemented together with Valmet-Xian. The production line was started up in record time and has operated extremely well. The good results were decisive in persuading the customer to acquire the new machine from Metso Paper / Valmet-Xian, too.

Sun Paper’s mill is located in the Shandong Province in Northeast China, where a considerable part of China’s paper industry is located. Metso Paper has already made several significant deliveries to this area.

The Chinese market has become the most important market area for Metso in the Asia-Pacific region. During the past year, Metso Paper has sold paper and board technology to China worth of EUR 150 million.
