Metso to deliver biomass-fired boiler plant for Eneco, a leading Dutch utility company

Metso Corporation’s press release on September 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. local time

The new power plant will be able to supply green electricity to meet the needs of 120,000 households saving CO2 emissions of some 250,000 tonnes annually.

Metso will supply a biomass-fired boiler plant for a leading dutch utility company, Eneco, in Delfzijl in the Netherlands. The construction of the power plant will be done by a consortium consisting of the German company Areva Renewables GmbH, Finnish Metso Power Oy and Dutch Ballast Nedam Industriebouw. The value of the power plant project order is EUR 155 million, of which Metso's share is approximately one third.

Metso’s delivery includes a 49 MWe biomass-fired boiler plant, a flue gas cleaning plant and stack, a feedwater system and a distributed control system. The boiler will utilize circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology and use mainly recycled wood as fuel. The power plant will need around 300,000 tonnes of wood a year, among others recycled waste wood chips. The wood arrives in Delfzijl from the Netherlands and neighbouring countries alike by ship, train and truck.

Start-up of the new power plant is scheduled for the third quarter of 2013. The order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s third quarter 2011 orders received.

Energy company Eneco produces, trades and supplies energy (electricity, gas, and district heating and cooling) and implements sustainable energy solutions. Eneco serves approximately two million business and domestic customers in the Netherlands and Belgium with energy for daily life and work. The company has 3,700 employees.

Metso is a global supplier of sustainable technology and services for mining, construction, power generation, automation, recycling and the pulp and paper industries. We have about 29,000 employees in more than 50 countries.
