Metso's reliable and high-performing valve solutions gain market share in geothermal business in Turkey

Metso has received totally 12 small or mid-sized orders from geothermal power providers in Turkey. Metso's delivery scope to the plants includes control and on-off valves, consisting of butterfly, globe, segment and ball valves ranging from 1" to 54" in size from the Neles® and Jamesbury® product portfolios. With Metso's valves the geothermal power plants can produce renewable energy efficiently and safely at a low cost and with a low impact on the environment.

The valves in a geothermal power plant must endure demanding process conditions, such as high pressure difference, flashing and silica scaling, and they must meet all safety requirements.

Metso's highly qualified range of control valves and proven industry experience secure sustainability and fulfill safety and environmental requirements in the geothermal plant processes. For example, Metso has the widest product scope with an extensive pressure rating for the wellhead phase in the process.

"Metso's proven valve solutions are an ideal fit for the geothermal industry where process conditions with variable pressures and temperatures can be very demanding on valve performance. Metso can meet customers' needs with our deep knowledge of choosing the proper valve type, material and specific sealing technologies to ensure a leak-free and reliable process", emphasized Cansu Gürbüz, Key Account Manager, Geothermals, Turkey, Flow Control, Metso.

The value of the orders is not disclosed. Some of these orders are included in Metso's first-quarter 2015 orders received, and divided bookings will follow during the second and third quarters of 2015.

In 2014 Metso received a large order from Zorlu Energy Companies Group in Turkey for flow control technology for a geothermal power plant. The company is building a new 45-MW geothermal power plant in Manisa-Alasehir, located about 560 km southwest of Ankara.

In 2013, Metso won its 10th repeat order from the Norwegian company Green Energy Group AS to deliver valves for their geothermal power plant installation in Kenya. Metso's valves are also installed in other countries such as in Iceland, Indonesia and Mexico.
