Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Perawang (IKPP) in Indonesia invested in roll reconditioning to ensure improved roll performace at their PPM6. With the help of Valmet’s roll reconditioning services the calender roll was updated to ”as new” condition and unplanned roll changes were prevented.

Customer challenge |
The mill faced challenges in their PPM6 related to unstable deflection-compensated roll operation in soft calender which led to the roll internal oil pressure variations, nip closing disturbances and external oil leakages. In addition, uneven nip profile also led to production time lost. |
Solution |
The other OEM deflection-compensated roll was reconditioned at Valmet Technology Center, Cikarang, Indonesia. The reconditioning service included thorough inspections of incoming roll condition as well as analysis and repair work. Roll was tested before the delivery back to customer to ensure reliable run time. |
Results |
Since the roll reconditioning, the roll ring chamber pressure and supply oil pressures have stayed stable resulting to improved machine efficiency and paper quality. Environmental and occupational safety have been also improved, thanks to roll leak-free running after its reconditioning. |
