Extending sizer roll running time at Moorim Paper Jinju PM1
By upgrading from conventional rubber sizer roll covers to Valmet Sizer Roll Cover CF, Moorim Paper significantly increased roll running time and improved sizer stability. The polyurethane cover eliminated roll cover damage, enabled longer and more predictable operating intervals, and supported uniform sizing distribution for improved end product quality.
Moorim Paper's Jinju mill is a key production site for industrial printing and high‑quality paper, operating two paper machines (PM1, PM3) in Jinju, South Korea. The facility features advanced technology, including high‑speed coating equipment, producing coated art paper and specialty papers with high productivity and specialized finishing.
At the Jinju mill’s PM1, sizer rolls previously equipped with rubber covers suffered from high wear rates, resulting in short roll running intervals. In addition, frequent roll cover damage negatively affected operational stability and maintenance predictability.
To address these challenges, the mill set clear targets: reducing roll cover damage, extending grinding intervals and overall running time, and improving sizing application to support final product quality.
After upgrading to the Valmet Sizer Roll Cover CF, the sizer roll performance has clearly improved. We achieved a significantly longer running interval without cover damage, while also seeing improvements in end-product quality.” Chung Ho-Kyung, Part Manager / Paper Making Part 1, Moorim Paper Jinju

Valmet Sizer Roll Cover CF, a polyurethane-based solution designed for demanding sizer roll conditions.
To meet its targets, Moorim Paper replaced the conventional rubber covers with Valmet Sizer Roll Cover CF. The cover material and structure are optimized for wear resistance and improved durability under high mechanical and chemical loading conditions.
Following the upgrade, PM1 extended the sizer roll running time from approximately four weeks to more than sixteen weeks, with no roll cover damage observed during operation. The improved durability enhanced sizer stability and eliminated unplanned shutdowns, while the stable sizing application contributed to consistently improved end‑product quality.
