The learning journey development process

1. Assess skills & plan

Development begins with skills mapping to identify current competence levels and role-specific development needs. Based on the results, clear development targets are defined and a tailored learning journey is designed to align with the mill, equipment and competence needs of each role

2. Develop
The most suitable learning methods are selected for each journey, such as online learning, classroom training, hands-on practice, immersive 360° learning environments with Valmet Virtual Mill and simulation-based training with Valmet Training Simulator.

3. Improve & track
Continuous and follow-up training, including refresher training, onboarding for new employees and further training, helps keep competence aligned as people, technologies and operational needs change. Progress is tracked to identify evolving development needs and adapt the learning journey accordingly.

Blended learning for efficient competence development

Our blended learning approach combines online learning and hands-on practice at the most suitable stages of the learning journey. License-based, mill-wide online learning provides a flexible foundation for competence development, with courses covering such as maintenance, process knowledge and way to operate across the production line. Hands-on training then deepen practical competence by applying this knowledge to equipment and real operational situations.

One example of our blended learning journeys is the five-module maintenance learning journey, which progresses from maintenance basics and pre-planning to planning, implementation and continuous improvement.
