Valmet and CMPC sign regional agreement to optimize Lime Kiln Reliability

The diagnostic and alignment services contract aims to optimize the performance of six lime kilns in Chile and Brazil, contributing to safer, more efficient, and more predictable operations.

Valmet and CMPC have reached an important milestone by signing a regional agreement for the delivery of specialized lime kiln services. The agreement is part of CMPC’s strategy to move toward an asset management model that provides greater traceability and a stronger ability to anticipate operational needs by consolidating services under long-term contracts with strategic partners.

The agreement aims to ensure the highest possible operational reliability of these critical assets within the causticizing process. Valmet’s technical proposal was developed in close collaboration with CMPC, based on the company’s technical requirements and the joint efforts of both teams. This reflects a shared understanding of the operational challenges and opportunities for improvement.

The scope of the contract includes the implementation of a specialized service designed to ensure that the kilns operate with optimal geometry, adequate mechanical stability, and controlled operating conditions. The solution combines advanced diagnostics performed while the kilns are in operation, with alignment adjustments supported by high-precision measurement technology. It also includes technical follow-up after each intervention and specialized support to ensure kiln stability following any necessary corrections.

This approach enables the early identification of potential deviations that, if left unaddressed, could lead to unplanned shutdowns, mechanical failures, or damage to critical components. In practical terms, Valmet’s value proposition translates into greater operational availability, extended service life for critical components, and optimized maintenance costs, directly contributing to safer, more stable, and more efficient operations.

Our experience with this type of asset enables us to detect deviations accurately, assess their potential impact on critical components, and define timely technical actions to sustain process performance. Through this agreement, we aim to contribute precisely to this area, combining know-how, technology, and a long-term approach to managing our customer’s assets,” explained Carl Mikael Stål, Corporate Account Manager at Valmet.

During the first years of implementation, Valmet will be supported by its global network of specialists, particularly those based in Denmark and Sweden. This will facilitate knowledge transfer and strengthen local capabilities. The support will help consolidate technical expertise in Latin America, ensuring the continuity and excellence of the service over time.

The agreement covers all six of CMPC’s lime kilns in the region, located at its Pacífico, Santa Fe, and Laja mills in Chile, as well as its Guaíba mill in Brazil. With an initial five-year term beginning in 2026, the contract reinforces the strategic nature of the collaboration between the two companies and helps establish and consolidate a regional approach to critical asset management.
