On Friday, January 20, 2023, Arauco produced the first bale of pulp by the new production line of the Arauco MAPA project, which includes major improvements to line 2 and the installation of this new production line (line 3) at the Arauco pulp mill, located in the Biobío region, in Chile.
Construction of the Metsä Fibre Kemi bioproduct mill is in full swing, with 3,500 people working at the site to start up a mill that is world class in energy, environmental, and material efficiency. The completely fossil fuel free new mill is scheduled to start up in the third quarter of 2023.
Project Star is one of the largest private investments in Brazil in the last 20 years, and it has made Bracell the largest producer of dissolving pulp in the world. The mill runs without any fossil fuels and can produce up to three million tonnes of kraft pulp per year.
In the last few years, we have seen a boom in pulp investments in China, where Valmet has five ongoing recovery boiler projects. The key drivers for recovery boiler technology selection have been to achieve high availability, a high reduction rate and energy efficiency.
Valmet concluded on September 9th the delivery of the evaporation and white liquor plants in Project Star, the new Bracell’s dissolving pulp mill, located in Lençóis Paulista, state of São Paulo, Brazil. The delivery includes equipment of high technological level, in terms of technical, energy and environmental performance.
