Major milestones reached at the Arauco Sucuriu project
During 2026, the works at the Arauco Sucuriu site in Inocencia Brazil have progressed with great speed and we have reached several important milestones. As this will be the largest pulp mill in the world build in one phase, also the project milestones are gigantic.
The recovery boiler will be the tallest structure at the site, this means that also the lifting works require special skill and equipment. The steam drum was safely and successfully lifted in May 2026. The steam drum is 32 meters long and weighs about 300 tonnes and lifting required two 750-tonne cranes.
There will be six disc chippers at the mill’s wood handling area. The world’s largest Disc Chipper, with 32 tonne rotors measuring 4 meters in diameter, was manufactured in Brazil, combining Finnish technological expertise with the engineering and manufacturing capabilities of Valmet’s workshops in Araucária and Portão in Brazil.
At the Sucuriú Project Fiberline, assembly of the TwinRoll™ presses, digesters and ImpBins is progressing. The downflow tower’s hydrostatic tightness test was completed ahead-of-schedule. After a complex international logistics operation, the top separators arrived to the site.
The pulp drying area will feature three pulp dryers and eight baling lines encompassing the area of 35,750 m². During the last months the building has taken shape 75 tonne overhead crane tested with overload, fan towers reaching the assembly phase as well as the start of the assembly of 46 meters tall broke tower that will have the capacity of 8,000 m³.
