Södra Cell Värö chooses Valmet’s electric Wrapper Folder for improved reliability and efficiency

Södra Cell Värö has taken another step toward a more energy‑efficient and reliable baling line by investing in Valmet’s new electric Wrapper Folder. The results have been very positive – high performance, reduced maintenance needs, and an improved working environment.

Södra Cell Värö in Sweden is a high‑capacity, renewable‑pulp mill recognized for its commitment to health and safety, efficiency, and sustainable production. The mill continuously invests in new technology to strengthen reliability and performance. 

Recently, the customer chose to install Valmet’s electric Wrapper Folder, a machine used for wrapping finished pulp bales in pulp sheets or rolled paper. The new electric Wrapper Folder replaces hydraulics with electric drive systems, leading to more precise and stable folding process. Its simplified design keeps service points easily accessible from floor level, thus making maintenance work easier.

Seamless integration to the existing baling line 

The electric Wrapper Folder is designed with the same main footprint as the previous hydraulic version, enabling installation in existing baling lines with minimal mechanical and electrical modifications. Valmet supported the customer throughout the installation and commissioning, leading to a successful startup.

A modern solution with a lower lifecycle cost 

The transition from hydraulic to electric drives eliminates the need for hydraulic power units, piping systems, and hydraulic oil. As a result, risks of oil leakage and spills are removed, and the fire load in the facility is reduced. The hydraulicsfree design also lowers maintenance requirements related to hydraulic systems and simplifies handling of consumables, contributing to higher availability and lower lifecycle cost.

Södra Cell’s Mönstrås pulp mill in Sweden was the world’s first mill to install Valmet’s electric Wrapper Folder machines in 2022 with two units.
