Valmet’s quality management system to enhance box plant efficiency and reduce waste at Acme Corrugated Box Co., Inc. in the US

Valmet will supply a Valmet IQ Quality Control System for corrugator at Acme Corrugated Box Co., Inc. in the United States. The system will enhance board quality and production efficiency, driving higher overall converting performance.

The delivery includes combined paper temperature, moisture balance, total moisture and flatness control, utilizing an interface to the existing state-of-the-art corrugator heating elements. It also incorporates Valmet’s proven moisture measurement technologies and automatic moisturizing solution.

“Our industry has traditionally been built on four key pillars: starch, paper, heat, and people. As equipment speeds increase, customer expectations tighten, and availability to source a wider range of paper including offshore grades, it’s clear we need to strengthen our ability to control moisture. Moisture is a critical variable that directly impacts board quality, runnability, and consistency. To stay competitive, we need to move beyond tradition controls of reacting to issues and instead control the process in real time. We selected Valmet based on their proven track record in the paper industry, specifically their ability to accurately measure and control moisture profiles. Their system will also integrate directly into our existing corrugator process controls, eliminating the need for operators to manage multiple systems and simplifying adoption on the floor. Our objective is not just to meet targets for quality, productivity, and waste, but to consistently hit the bullseye. We believe this system positions us to do exactly that. We expect to see improved board quality and consistency, higher corrugator speeds and runnability, faster converting throughput, and the reduction in overall waste,” says Kevin LandmanMaintenance Manager, Acme Corrugated Box.

“With Valmet IQ, Acme will benefit from more stable production, more consistent product quality, and reduced day-to-day operator workload. The system’s advanced moisture and warp measurements, combined with automatic control, help minimize waste and support their sustainability targets. This is a clear example of how smart automation empowers our customer to achieve smoother operations and higher efficiency, ”says David Maddux, Board Converting Automation Sales Manager, North America, Automation Solutions, Valmet.

The order is included in Valmet’s orders received in the third quarter of 2025. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The system is scheduled to start up in the second quarter of 2026.
