Valmet Perini Constellation. 10+ years of excellence. An innovation that keeps evolving.

From an innovative rewinder to a technological platform for the future of tissue converting.

In 2026, Perini Constellation celebrates more than ten years since its market introduction. A milestone that reflects how this technology has redefined tissue converting standards worldwide.

Since 2015, more than 160 lines have been installed in 28 countries across 45 customer sites. From North and Latin America to Europe, Africa, Australia, and Japan, Perini Constellation has proven its ability to adapt to different markets, products, and production models.

Today, Constellation represents one of the most significant chapters in sixty years of converting innovation and serves as one of the technological foundations on which Valmet will build the next generation of tissue converting solutions.

Visibly more. The challenge that gave birth to Constellation

When introduced in 2016, Perini Constellation addressed a fundamental shift in the tissue industry. Manufacturers needed more than efficiency—they needed products that could stand out on the shelf.

This led to the concept of Visibly More: rolls that are bulkier, more attractive, and more uniform, enhancing every detail of the finished product.

To address this need, Perini developed a technology that was radically different from the standards of the time.

The four-roll revolution

Constellation's unique architecture features movable rolls that maintain at least three contact points throughout the entire log formation phase.

This unprecedented control preserves bulk, softness, and embossing definition while ensuring consistent roll quality.

As Giacomo Lapini, Development Mechanical Designer, explains:

“The core of Constellation is its four-roll geometry: the circle inscribed within the lower roll trio matches the core diameter, eliminating any compression. The result is unprecedented control over log formation.”

Unlike conventional rewinders where the start of a new winding cycle is linked to discharge of the previous log, Perini Constellation maintains continuous product control, eliminating compression and delivering superior results.

“The ‘perfect roll’ is not an aesthetic achievement: it is the promise of preserving, right up to the last sheet, all the value created during embossing and the previous process stages.” states Dario Giannini, Engravings Product Innovation & Senna Pilot Line Manager

Ten years of field experience

The worldwide success demonstrates that Constellation has evolved from a breakthrough rewinding innovation into a technology platform with lasting industrial value.

The technology has adapted across diverse product categories—from toilet tissue to kitchen towels, conventional products to premium solutions with structured papers like TAD, Advantage NTT, and Advantage NTTe—while maintaining consistent results despite natural variations in paper characteristics, core quality, and operator experience.

“Paper characteristics, core quality, operator experience and product configurations may vary. Constellation helps keep performance, efficiency and roll quality under control.” states Dave Knutson, technical Sale, Valmet Inc. North America

Constellation and the value of an integrated ecosystem

A fundamental contribution to the evolution of Constellation has come from the Perini Constellation S6 pilot line. Originally created to allow customers to experience the technology firsthand and evaluate its benefits, it has evolved into a research and development platform used to explore new product concepts, embossing configurations and process innovations.

Today, this vision extends even further thanks to the integration between the pilot paper machine in Karlstad and the Constellation pilot line in Lucca. Producers can follow product development across the entire value chain, from fiber and papermaking to embossing, lamination and final converting.

Latin America: When a technology becomes an industry standard

Latin America stands out as the most significant success region, with 65 installed lines representing approximately 40% of the global installed base. The region's continuous pursuit of production efficiency and fiber optimization has made Constellation the preferred choice among tissue manufacturers.

As Daniel Schroeder Sales SR Manager LATAM explains: “Constant innovation for the best product at the best cost: that is what drives the tissue market in Latin America.”

Supporting this growth is Valmet’s Joinville facility in Brazil, which serves the entire LATAM region by providing local manufacturing, technical support and continuous collaboration with leading tissue producers.

From innovation to enabling platform

Today, Constellation transcends rewinding technology. It is a platform designed to simplify production, expand operational capabilities, and preserve the value created throughout the preceding stages of the converting process.

As manufacturers pursue more distinctive, sustainable, and high-performance products, Constellation's value lies in its ability to connect rewinding performance with broader converting goals—supporting product evolution while maximizing innovations developed across the entire process.

“Today Constellation is not only an innovative rewinder, but a platform capable of simplifying production, expanding operational possibilities and enhancing everything created in the previous stages of the process.” states Simone Barsanti, Senior Manager, Rewinding, Converting and Packaging Technology

Excellence is not measured only by results achieved, but by the ability to continue evolving and creating value over time. Perini Constellation. Excellence is built on numbers.
