Perini Catalyst embosser: a milestone installation for tissue embossing technology in Brazil
The installation of the first Catalyst embosser in Brazil marks an important milestone for the continues strengthening of Valmet prescence in the market. This installation represents the 14th Catalyst unit in Latin America, following previous installations in Mexico and Colombia.
What is the Catalyst embosser?
Catalyst is the only embosser on the market featuring automatic steel roll changes for both upper and lower positions. It is designed for both consumer products (retail rolls) and AFH (Away‑from‑Home / industrial rolls). Embossing patterns can be changed simply by pressing a button on the HMI (Human‑Machine Interface), increasing safety, efficiency, and line flexibility.
Why this installation matters for the Brazilian tissue market
Brazil is a key market for tissue converting in Latin America, with producers increasingly serving both retail and AFH segments. The first Catalyst embosser installation in Brazil highlights how automated tissue embossing technology is evolving to support flexibility, productivity, and operator safety.
Key benefits of the Catalyst embosser
- Safety: The steel roll change is fully automatic and does not require the use of an overhead crane.
-
Versatility: a simplified interface (Easy HMI) that enables easy operation and the production of a wide range of products.
-
Flexibility: the Eulero™ roll system ensures a uniform NIP under any operating condition.
-
Efficient storage: a lower warehouse accommodating up to four rolls, protected from dust and immediately available for production, plus two rolls already positioned in the machine, for a total of six rolls.
-
Full automation: whit AX automatic exchange system, allows steel rolls to be added to or removed from the storage warehouse while the machine is running.
Supporting AFH growth and private branding
Catalyst can become a strategic technology in the current market scenario, where demand for industrial rolls (AFH) is steadily growing. Thanks to its fast steel roll change, it enables wholesalers or retailers to emboss their own branding directly onto the paper.
High‑quality embossing with Warm up Next
As a recognized reference in embossing technologies, Warm‑up Next represents the latest technological evolution designed to further enhance the benefits of Warm‑up Contactless.
By introducing pre‑embossing capabilities, Warm‑up Next delivers superior results in finished products and opens virtually unlimited configuration possibilities for both toilet paper and kitchen towels, including micro pre‑embossing applications.
The solution enables the integration of one or two pre‑embossing stations with steel/rubber rolls into existing embossing units. In the case of a single station, this can be achieved without significant changes to the tissue converting line layout.
The process eliminates the need for a water source, removing wetting and drying phases during production, while keeping the paper web path unchanged and preserving the overall line simplicity.
Through the acquisition of Roll‑Tec, Valmet has become the only company worldwide authorized to engrave rolls for toilet paper and kitchen towels using hybrid embossing technology. This patented solution combines the strengths of tip-to-tip and DESL embossing, delivering a significant increase in embossed paper volume, both in thickness and in the structural definition of the final product (bulk).
Warm-up Next and DECO Embossing
The tissue market is cyclical, and certain technologies gain renewed momentum as industry challenges evolve.
One example is the combination of Deco-Embossing with Warm‑Up Next, designed as an advanced alternative to traditional tip-to-tip embossing.
The innovation lies in separating macro and micro embossing, combined with electromagnetic induction heating of the rolls, which enhances efficiency, process stability, and product quality. This integration delivers higher bulk, softness, and absorbency while reducing fiber consumption.
In a market increasingly focused on cost efficiency and premium products, the synergy between technologies is what enables higher performance with fewer resources.
