Mais Papéis enters the double ply tissue market with Valmet’s X3 line

“It represents the dream of every tissue converter: having Valmet technology,” says Fabio Girardelo, General Director of Mais Papéis, about the start up of Valmet’s X3 line at the company’s plant in Rio Grande do Sul.

Overview over the Mais Papeis plant

Changes in Brazilian consumer behavior over time have become increasingly evident: double‑ply toilet paper is growing at twice the rate of single‑ply. This change led Mais Papéis to form a strategic partnership with Valmet to strengthen its market presence with double‑ and triple‑ply paper.

The Valmet Perini X3 line selected by Mais Papéis configured with three unwinders, one embosser/laminator, one rewinder, an internal core cassette, and a tail sealer unit, is a versatile and compact solution. It can convert single, double, or triple ply toilet paper rolls at speeds of up to 200 m/min and 10 logs/min.

Its compact layout and modular concept simplify installation and maintenance. Depending on customer requirements, the Perini X3 converting line can also be equipped with a dedicated embossing module for kitchen towels in DESL format, delivering even greater production flexibility and reduced setup time.

In addition to supplying the line, Valmet was responsible for the entire embossing development process, including artwork creation, design aspects and material testing. Valmet is the only company worldwide authorized to engrave embossing rolls for kitchen towels and toilet paper using hybrid embossing technology.

The complete project, from development through approval of the artwork for steel roll engraving, with a focus on the bulk and softness requirements of the final product and a distinctive design, was completed in just five working days, a record time.

“Valmet is a benchmark in quality, service, and vision. In the tissue segment, this is unquestionable. I carried out market research, but when you are confident about the quality and the product you will receive, there is no other option in this segment in Brazil,” states Fabio Girardelo, General Director of Mais Papéis
