Learning, developing, and helping customers succeed

When we meet Moa Sandström at the office in Karlstad, Sweden, her positive energy is immediately noticeable, filling the room and reaching beyond the corridor to her colleagues.

That positivity is complemented by a genuine curiosity and eagerness to learn, qualities that have shaped her career at Valmet. Unlike many colleagues, Moa did not follow a traditional engineering path. She joined Valmet at a young age as a Project Coordinator after completing her studies in finance. Working closely with different teams gave her insights into both the technical and commercial sides of the business.

Over time, her proactive approach and openness to learning paved the way for new opportunities. Through internal training, hands-on experience, and support from experienced colleagues, she gradually transitioned into her current role as Product Sales Manager within Field Services.  Today, she helps customers to improve mill performance and optimize their operations throguh service and remote support.

No two days are the same

Her role within Tissue Field Services means working with a high variety of tasks. The combination of a fast pace and diverse tasks is something she enjoys. 

When asked what a typical day looks like, Moa answers that there really isn't one. Her days can involve everything from preparing quotations and coordinating with technical specialists to supporting customer discussions and making sure proposed solutions meet both technical and business requirements. Acting as a link between customers and internal teams, she helps keep projects moving forward while ensuring everyone is working toward the same goal.

Much of the work happens behind the scenes, and coordination is a central part of that.

"While customer meetings are an important part of the job, much of my work involves ensuring that the proposed solution meets the customer's needs, both from a technical and business perspective, before it is presented.”

Helping customer succeed

Moa regularly interacts with customers in collaboration with Valmet's Mill Sales Managers, digitally and face to face. For her, the international environment is a major source of inspiration.

“I enjoy working with people from different countries and cultures. Every mill and organization has its own challenges and ways of working, which makes the job both interesting and rewarding. I thrive on the variety, and I'm motivated by helping customers achieve their goals and ensuring they are satisfied with the outcome.”

Learning through people and experiences 

The support and expertise of colleagues have played an important role in her career so far, but valuable learning has also come from meeting customers and visiting their operations.

"Every visit to customer site has been a memorable experience. It's fun and educational to see the mill in real life and it gives me a much deeper understanding of our customers and their operations."

Moa's biggest strengths? Her curiosity, passion for learning and being collaborative. "I listen carefully, ask questions to fully understand the challenges, and work closely with my colleagues to find the best solution. Being a team player helps me build strong relationships both internally and with customers."

Staying active outside work

To recharge and relax outside work, Moa enjoy spending time with friends and family, travelling, and staying active with sports such as golf or floorball.
"Having played floorball at a high level for many years, I still enjoy getting out on the court for fun whenever she can. An active and a social life helps me unwind and recharge."
