Why does flow control product availability pay off?

You might have heard the saying that valve failure is expensive. Based on our experience, waiting is even more costly. When a valve fails, production comes to a standstill, and only then does the search begin: Where can we get the right part, and how quickly? At that point, what matters most is that the part is available when and where it is needed. That’s why local availability and fast delivery play a decisive role. These are parts of the device management services we offer. At Valmet, we believe that thinking ahead, before issues arise, ensures plant availability and smooth operations.

Not everything needs to be stocked in-house

Our device management service was born out of everyday reality. An issue with a flow control device can bring production to an abrupt halt, launching a race against time where the availability of the right part, in the right place at the right moment, matters most. These are concrete situations we see at plants every week. The good thing is that we can offer security when unexpected situations happen. The service model is tailored to the customer’s needs, critical equipment, and installed base knowledge. Valmet provides stocking, delivery, and installation of the equipment.

Smarter device management

Our first device management service agreement was signed back in 1995. The idea behind the service model is ultimately quite simple: the agreed spare equipment is quickly available when it’s needed. No guessing, no long lead times, no panic solutions. When a situation arises, everyone knows what to do.

In many industrial plants, inventory has grown over the years, sometimes just a little more, “to be on the safe side.” Yet the one critical part is still missing when it’s needed most. With our expertise, we ensure access to valves, pumps, actuators, or valve controllers without tying up the customer’s capital in every possible spare. Sometimes fast delivery is the right solution; other times, standard delivery is sufficient. There is no one-service-fits-all model. Our device management service is fully customizable, always aligned with the customer’s specific needs and process requirements. At some customer sites, we also have dedicated resident engineers who take care of the installed devices, their maintenance, and component replacements. We take care of the complexity and store equipment

Right parts, right time, without tying up capital.

Inventory management, replenishment, maintenance, substitutions, and the assembly of equipment combinations are all taken care of by us as the OEM. This allows our customers’ maintenance teams to focus on what they do best: keeping the plant running.

The items to be stored are always defined based on factual data and installed products: what equipment is installed at the customer site, which components are critical, and what has historically shown signs of wear. No guessing of which products could be needed, only facts and long experience. And when the installed base at the customer site changes, the inventory of the stock evolves accordingly, and we take care of updating the records.

Clear responsibilities make life easier for everyone

The device management service is based on an agreement where responsibilities are clearly defined in advance. The stocked products or spare parts are stored at Valmet’s service center or at facilities near the customer, and operations are jointly reviewed in agreed follow-up meetings. No surprises, and no explanations needed when a disruption occurs. This is not a fancy concept on paper. It’s a practical way to make everyday maintenance easier and production more reliable. In addition, the service is fully scalable, depending on the customer’s needs.
