Securing lifecycle value of your investment from the start

When we think about the lifecycle of a paper or board machine, the long-term value is very much determined early in the investment phase. A lifecycle partnership with Valmet provides a structured way for mills to secure that value over the whole lifecycle of the machine.

Valmeteer and customer planning together at the mill

At Valmet, one of the things we focus on in every partnership is continuous collaboration. This is achieved by ensuring good communication and open dialogue throughout the entire lifecycle. It ensures the collaboration goes smoothly and, as a customer, it gives you the confidence to share challenges and targets with us, so that both parties can work on them systematically in a coordinated manner. This way, instead of two teams working in parallel, we create one shared action plan, with your teams and Valmet experts working as one toward clearly defined goals.

Support across the full lifecycle

Our approach to lifecycle partnerships looks at the big picture, extending through all phases of the lifecycle, beginning even well before project implementation and start-up. At Valmet, lifecycle thinking is embedded in our research and development. We focus on developing machines that are easy to maintain, technically suitable for customer needs, and that have been able to deliver added value to customers for decades. A successful lifecycle partnership will typically include early engagement during the project investment phase, with deep cooperation to jointly set targets. From the beginning, both parties will agree on a systematic performance development model, the use of digital tools to proactively support maintenance and optimize operations, and the scope of services to support machine efficiency, runnability improvements, and so on. In addition, tailored partnership agreements ensure reliable operations and defined levels of process performance over longer time periods.

At all stages of the lifecycle, the focus remains the same: keeping your production line reliable and competitive.

Lifecycle partnership with Valmet begins much earlier than the machine start-up.

Fully-tailored partnerships

Naturally, every customer has different requirements and targets, so each partnership is tailored to meet their individual needs, whether the focus is on cost-efficient production, securing high performance, quality or high efficiency of the paper machine. Support is provided both for mills that are investing in brand-new lines, as well as for mills looking to upgrade or improve the performance of existing lines. Local specialists can support customers both on-site and remotely, with access to our global network when required. We use new digital tools for reliability improvements, process optimization, quicker problem solving and improved customer communication.

Through safe solutions, services, and systematic ways of working, we also support your mill in improving safety performance alongside operational results.

Meeting challenges together

Over the life time of a machine, paper and board mills can face different challenges, including unplanned downtime and issues with reliability, quality deviations and process instability, as well as workforce competence gaps. In addition, external pressures can emerge, like new regulations, and changes in demand.

Having a close partnership with continuous dialogue can help mitigate these risks because it builds good awareness about the machine and its performance, including potential opportunities and emerging issues. This makes it possible to solve any problems that occur faster and supports the identification of upgrade and improvement needs at different stages of the lifecycle. For example, upgrades that could increase your capacity and improve competitiveness. Furthermore, learning services and competence development ensure that mill teams and new recruits have the skills needed to operate and maintain equipment correctly and safely.

Building profitability over the lifecycle

Getting the machine concept right from the beginning has a huge impact on its profitability over the lifecycle. This is why close collaboration is so important during the early phases. A good machine concept will enable fast start-up, optimized production levels and production costs, reliable operations, and good maintainability. The right technologies enable optimization of manufacturing costs by reducing consumption of energy, raw material and water, and ensuring a high level of machine efficiency. And, with our expert services and remote support, we can provide continuous condition monitoring and quick problem-solving support to minimize unplanned downtime.

At Valmet, we’re willing to be your lifecycle partner to help you maximize the value of your mill over its entire lifecycle. We’ll work closely with you, be proactive and always available.

Close collaboration is vital during the early phases of the lifecycle.

Long-lasting and successful references

We have a lot of proven and successful references of lifecycle partnerships globally, ranging from full production line level down to product level. In addition, many new machines have been started up quickly with our extended start-up support, and several machine speed improvements have been achieved through our process support. Maintenance operations and reliability improvements, as well as break and broke reduction projects, have been carried out to enhance machine performance. Operational costs have also been optimized through energy efficiency improvements and raw material optimization. A successful lifecycle partnership is long lasting, and many partnerships have lasted over decades.
