Valmet’s automation enhances energy production efficiency and electricity market participation at Energie AG in Austria
Valmet Oyj’s trade press release, March 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. EET
Valmet is to deliver an energy balance optimizer digital solution to Energie AG Umwelt Service’s waste treatment facility in Wels, Austria, enabling the company to dynamically balance energy production and consumption in response to market fluctuations. The solution will be seamlessly integrated with the company’s existing Valmet Distributed Control System (DCS) and connected to the energy management system (EMS). The mission-critical solution enables the company to respond flexibly and reliably to electricity market while enhancing the efficiency of district heat production.
“Valmet’s comprehensive product portfolio, high technological standards, and proven expertise in automation and process technology gave us confidence to expand our existing Valmet DCS. Combined with Valmet’s combustion and district heating optimization and turbine control at the site, their energy balance optimizer solution is exactly what we needed. It helps us achieve the optimal balance between multiple energy producers and consumers while also improving the efficiency and flexibility of our district heating production,” says Power Plant Manager Günther Gruber from Energie AG Umwelt Service.
“We are proud to deliver our energy balance optimizer solution to our long-term customer Energie AG Umwelt Service, enabling better participation in the electricity market while enhancing the efficiency of waste-based district heating production. The customer has taken significant steps toward greater operational flexibility and improved the plant’s performance across its entire lifecycle. With several successful installations already in operation, Valmet’s energy balance optimizer has consistently demonstrated strong results in optimizing flexible energy systems. As the energy sector in Central Europe rapidly shifts toward a faster, decentralized model, the solution’s importance continues to grow,” says Mustafa Began, Service Area Manager, Automation Solutions business area, Valmet.
