Valmet and BHEL strengthen their leadership in flexible operations in India
Valmet and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) are strengthening their long-standing partnership in India’s transition towards flexible power plant operations. At Flex India 2026, the companies highlighted their joint achievements and demonstrated how advanced automation solutions can support more flexible and efficient power generation.
A strong track record in flexible operations
Valmet and BHEL have made a significant contribution to India’s journey towards flexible power plant operations. Together, the companies have secured 31 advanced process control (APC) orders for PC boilers, with 13 systems already commissioned.
At their joint presentation at Flex India 2026 on June 25, 2026, this pioneering journey was highlighted through several key milestones by Mr. Dhyan Jyoti Saikia, Deputy General Manager at BHEL EDN Bangalore. The BHEL team also presented implementation cases demonstrating the benefits achieved through advanced automation, including a 3% ramp rate and low-load performance at 40% Turbine Maximum Continuous Rating (TMCR).
Showcasing Valmet’s expertise and new solutions
Senior Sales Manager Amit Rastogi from Valmet’s Automation Solutions business area highlighted Valmet’s long-standing collaboration with BHEL, which dates back to 2000. Valmet's Senior Product Manager Pawel Kalbarczyk presented new features in Valmet’s Flexible Operations solution, supporting more flexible and efficient power plant operations.
Valmet team also presented a case study of a 660 MW supercritical unit, exploring future development opportunities based on planar temperature data extracted from the Valmet Acoustic Pyrometer.

Combining local expertise with advanced automation
Organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in New Delhi, Flex India 2026 brought together speakers and stakeholders from India and abroad to discuss the theme “Preparing India’s Coal-fired Power Plants for Flexible Operations.” Valmet and BHEL were both sponsors of this year’s event.
The event also highlighted the strength of the long-standing partnership between Valmet and BHEL. As a highly engaged local partner, BHEL has played a key role in bringing advanced automation and flexible operations solutions to the Indian power sector.
A partnership opening new opportunities
By combining BHEL’s strong market presence with Valmet’s technology expertise, the partnership has established a solid reference base in India. This collaboration has also enabled Valmet to expand into applications and customer segments that would be difficult to reach independently.
Together, Valmet and BHEL continue to support the development of more flexible, efficient and responsive power generation in India.
