Valmet to supply automation to Gasum’s new biogas plant in Lohja, Finland

Valmet will supply automation to Gasum’s new biogas plant currently under construction in Lohja, Finland. The plant will process 60,000 tons of biowaste and produce more than 40 gigawatt hours of biogas and 50,000 tons of organic fertilizers per year.
The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the fourth quarter 2019. The value of the order is not disclosed. The automation solutions will be delivered to the plant in June 2020 and handed over to the customer in November 2020.
“We selected Valmet DNA automation system for our biogas process because we have learned to rely on Valmet’s technology. In addition to the hardwired connections Valmet DNA system collects information from about ten PLC systems offering good user interface, history data and reporting properties,” says Tero Tikka, Project Manager, Gasum.
“In this biogas process, our new user interface supports Gasum’s process by providing each user with adequate information. Built with the latest web technologies, it comes with a secure web-based access that enables plant teams to access relevant information whenever they need it,” says Heikki Tanner, Sales Manager, Automation, Valmet.
The order is a continuation to Valmet’s many automation technology deliveries to Gasum. Recently, Valmet delivered its Valmet DNA system to Gasum’s biogas plants in Oulu, Kuopio and Honkajoki, Finland. Additionally, Valmet has supplied its Valmet DNA Integrated Operations solution for centralized data collection and container logistics handling to control Gasum’s refueling station infrastructure.

Valmet’s delivery to the new biogas plant in Lohja includes a Valmet DNA automation system, an information management system, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning and training.
The new web-based Valmet DNA User Interface extends the use of automation system beyond the traditional control room. The system adapts the shown information based on the needs of various users and user groups. Relevant information is delivered in visual, well-structured, easy-to-understand dashboards, process and sub-process views, allowing the users of the automation system to control the process better than ever before.
