Stable long-term wastewater system operation

Black water management

Black water covers domestic sewage from onboard sanitary facilities, containing organic waste and microorganisms that are heavily restricted by international maritime discharge standards. Valmet’s black water control system delivers end-to-end automation for sewage holding tanks, transfer pumps, valves and discharge interlocks. It continuously monitors tank levels, triggers automatic pumping sequences and enforces discharge limitations in accordance with MARPOL and local port requirements. The solution seamlessly integrates with all certified marine sewage treatment plants, ensuring stable, unattended operation throughout voyages.

Grey water management

Grey water is wastewater generated from galleys, showers, laundry spaces and other onboard living areas, containing grease, detergents and suspended solids. Improper discharge leads to marine pollution and potential port penalties. Our automated grey water control enables real-time status tracking, automatic flow diversion, tank level regulation and on-treatment activation. With Valmet DNAe automation, grey water systems run reliably with minimal human intervention, supporting sustainable shipping and full adherence to global environmental rules.
