My job at Neles: from a Summer Trainee to a Legal Associate

Anni hiking in nature in USA

Anni was an exchange student in the United States, where she studied law. In her free time, she went hiking in nature, among other things.

My journey at Neles began in 2017 when I was recruited as a summer trainee to work in the Treasury team. From that moment to this day, I've had the opportunity to develop and work on many different projects and ultimately to pursue my dream job in law.

In the Treasury team, my project for the summer was to help the team in creating internal training materials and e-learning courses on customer and trade finance and various other topics. The responsibilities of the Treasury team include arranging financing for subsidiaries, managing liquidity and payments, managing bank relations, and supporting trade and customer financing within the Neles Group. At that time, the company was still part of Metso.

The project went well, and it did not end up being my last project in the company: after the summer, I got the chance to continue to work as a part-time trainee – and later as a project coordinator!

As a project coordinator, my next challenge was with a contract life-cycle management project, where I was involved in designing new solutions for efficient contract management. This project took me all the way to the U.S. and also to Chile, where I got to put my Spanish skills to the real test.

Achieving my ultimate goal in the legal team

Currently, I am pursuing my ultimate interest in law and working as a Legal Associate in the Neles Legal and Compliance team, while finalizing my degree in international business law. My daily work involves reviewing contracts, drafting documents, providing support for legal questions, and helping with various ad-hoc tasks.  I’m also continuing to work on different projects, such as putting together a negotiation guide and training material for our sales team. I really enjoy being able to work on diverse and challenging tasks, and I am definitely learning a lot.

There are two key factors that have marked my experience at Neles since I started as a summer trainee and still do to this day:

1. Opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects and assignments

Even on my first days as a summer trainee I was given a clear project and trusted with the ownership of that project. What I have truly enjoyed about working at Neles is that I have been given responsibility; this has allowed me to both challenge myself and to show my skills and talent. I have also been able to communicate my professional interests and goals – and that has led me to where I am today in the company.

2. Friendly and supportive atmosphere and amazing colleagues

When I started my career in a foreign city and during my first days as a trainee, I was warmly welcomed into the work community and met trainees from many other teams. I have enjoyed the possibility to collaborate with colleagues from different teams, and it has also been a great way to gain a bigger picture of how a global company like Neles works. There has not been a day or an issue that I have not been able to turn to a colleague for support. Everyone is always happy to help, even when they are busy with their own work.

I can truly recommend Neles as a workplace for anyone who wishes to develop in their career and work in an international growth company – while being supported by amazing colleagues!
