Yueyang PM 11: A comprehensive automation solution lays a foundation for intelligent manufacturing
Entering into the new era, Yueyang Forest & Paper, a state-owned paper enterprise, is actively responding to national policies promoting industrial development and corporate social responsibility. To implement China’s 14th five-year plan for paper industry, build a green manufacturing base, and achieve high-quality and sustainable development, Yueyang Forest & Paper invested in papermaking line PM 11 project with an annual capacity of 450,000 tonnes.
 
                The paper machine is equipped with a comprehensive range of Valmet's automation solutions, covering distributed control system (DCS), machine controls, quality control system (QCS), profilers, condition monitoring system, analyzers, Industrial Internet applications, web inspection system (WIS), web monitoring system (WMS), and microwave consistency measurements. These form a complete intelligent control solution for the paper machine's production.
Unified architecture enhances operational efficiency
Valmet's standardized user interface and unified data platform significantly reduce operational complexity. Through the Valmet DNA Distributed Control System, seamless data interaction between control modules is achieved, optimizing the efficiency of process parameter adjustments. Verified reliability of key functions
The paper machine is equipped with Valmet IQ Web Inspection and Web Monitoring Systems to secure product quality. Yueyang Forest & Paper has previously adopted Valmet's web break monitoring system on PM 8, which enables rapid identification of web break locations and causes. Subsequently, this investment was added to machines 9 and 10, successfully identifying multiple anomalies and enabling operators to quickly pinpoint causes. The system is appreciated by Yueyang Forest & Paper's project leaders, who see the system as an industry benchmark.
Application of high-precision measurement systems
Valmet Microwave Consistency Measurements are installed at key locations such as the machine chest and blend chest. Utilizing advanced total consistency measurement technology that is insensitive to fiber variations has significantly improved consistency control accuracy. The enhanced measurement stability effectively reduces production fluctuations. The equipment's low maintenance requirements and fast response characteristics meet customer needs and continue the successful story of the microwave consistency meters on PM 8, 9, and 10.
Security architecture and data management
Valmet and Yueyang Forest & Paper jointly built a firewall system to ensure the security of network communication and prevent security incidents. Valmet Industrial Internet (VII) advanced applications such as centerline analysis and energy analysis are under development and will provide data to support production optimization. Simultaneously, the backup stations and other systems ensure data recovery and enhance system redundancy.
 
    The reliability of Valmet’s system has been fully verified in actual operation. The integrated solution built on the versatile expertise not only meets the stringent network requirements but also enables full lifecycle management of the equipment through asset management functions. The high precision and low maintenance of the microwave consistency measurements have effectively resolved the long-standing consistency fluctuation issues.
