R&D resources

Valmet has over 400 R&D professionals around the globe and 1,300 protected inventions. The annual R&D spend is around EUR 98 million.
Valmet’s own R&D centers and pilot machines form the backbone of our research and development work. Altogether, we have 24 pilot facilities that carry out both internal R&D and customer projects.
Our research and development work is complemented by a close cooperation with a network of world-leading research facilities and universities e.g. Aalto University, Jyväskylä University, Tampere Univeristy of Technology, Åbo Akademi and VTT in Finland, Chalmers, KTH, Uppsala University, Umeå University, Mitt Universitet and Innventia in Sweden, SINTEF in Norway, Universidade Federal de Viçosa and Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in Brazil, and Asian Institue of Technology AIT in Thailand.
A large amount of our technology development is done in cooperation with our customers and suppliers, who also have the possibility to conduct their pilot projects with Valmet’s pilot machines.
