Valmet to increase resource efficiency through digitalization at Klingele Weener mill in Germany
Valmet Oyj’s trade press release, August 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. EEST
Valmet has received an order from Klingele Paper & Packaging for an automation solution to increase resource efficiency through digitalization at the Weener paper mill in Germany. The order comprises an integrated solution that combines three new automation products with the customer’s existing automation environment to reduce surface starch use and energy consumption.
The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the second quarter 2025. Its value will not be disclosed.
“We are committed to improving our environmental performance continuously. Taking this new step in digitalization will help us on that journey. The primary goal of this project is to significantly reduce the usage of surface starch. This will also lead to decreased water usage and consequently less steam is required for drying,” says Johannes Reiners, Operations Manager, Klingele Paper Weener.
“Three automation solutions will be integrated into the customer’s current automation systems supplied by Valmet. The total solution will create an optimization loop which continuously collects and analyzes data to refine key process variables,” says Martin Grundmann, Senior Sales Manager, Automation Solutions, Valmet.

Delivery’s technical information
Three automation solutions, Valmet Fiber Furnish Analyzer, Valmet Advanced Process Controls (APC), and Valmet PlantTriage, are now integrated into the customer’s existing automation environment, which includes Valmet DNA, Valmet Quality Control System (QCS), and Valmet Paper Lab. Together, they form a data-driven optimization loop that reduces starch use. As the system runs, it continually identifies opportunities to do more with less. The project is supported by Valmet’s automation services.
