Uniform thermal spray coating for consistent tissue quality
ABC Tissue Products is one of the leading tissue paper product suppliers in Australia. The company produces well-known and trusted brands of toilet tissue, facial tissue, kitchen towels and napkins for Australian market. Delivering premium tissue products to customers is the company’s mission.
At its Sydney-based TM1 machine, the operational team continuously seeks solutions to improve machine performance, with tissue quality as a top priority. Recently, they launched a project aimed at achieving a consistently uniform moisture profile and reducing sheet breaks.
To meet these goals, ABC Tissue partnered with Valmet to perform grinding and thermal spray coating on its Yankee dryer.
Tangible results after coating
Valmet’s Infinikote-1 thermal spray coating was applied by our experienced professionals. This coating technology enhances Yankee cylinder surface condition, ensuring optimal heat transfer and uniformity.
The result speak for themselves after the coating:
- Uniform moisture profile maintained even after two months of felt lifetime
- 50% fewer sheet breaks, especially edge breaks
- Improved runnability and paper quality, leading to more efficient machine operation
After thermal spray coating, the Yankee surface condition has improved, which brings even moisture profile. In addition, the sheet breaks reduced significantly. Overall, our operational team is very happy with this on-site service and our decision going with Valmet.

At the beginning of the project, there were some unexpected practical and tool-related challenges that affected the start-up schedule. Through open communication and strong cooperation with the ABC team, these issues were resolved efficiently, allowing the project to stay on schedule and meet the expected results.
