Combining expertise and digital intelligence – Introducing Advantage ViscoNip press overhaul with remote support

As part of our continuous drive to improve customer value, Valmet is introducing a digitally enhanced approach to Advantage™ ViscoNip® Press overhauls - now supported by remote monitoring and analytics from the Valmet Performance Center (VPC). By bringing together hands-on experience and data-driven insights, this new service concept aims to raise the bar in maintenance efficiency, reliability, and performance optimization.

Turning data into actionable service insights

The development of the Advantage ViscoNip press overhaul with remote support is rooted in one clear goal: helping tissue producers avoid unplanned shutdowns while optimizing machine performance.

Alexander Pollack,
product specialist at Valmet

By integrating VPC support before, during, and after the overhaul, Valmet can deliver a more proactive and predictive maintenance process.

A few weeks ahead of the scheduled overhaul, our specialists begin remotely monitoring the Advantage ViscoNip press. This involves analyzing both historical and real-time operational data, enabling the service team to assess component conditions, identify early warning signs, and plan for the work ahead with a high level of precision.

We’re using the data to create a clearer picture before we even arrive on site. That means fewer surprises, the right parts ready, and a much smoother service experience for the customer.”

Field-proven process, digitally enhanced

The on-site overhaul includes the dismantling of the roll from the machine and disassembly of the Advantage ViscoNip roll itself replacing all wear parts, measuring and alignment, and critical safety checks around the Yankee dryer. These steps follow Valmet’s proven Basic Roll Overhaul procedures, now augmented by real-time guidance and follow-up support from the VPC.

Two weeks after completion, VPC experts conduct a second remote analysis to ensure the system is performing as expected. This post-service check verifies machine stability and flags any potential anomalies early, offering added security and operational continuity.

Laying the groundwork for smarter maintenance

To enable remote support, an online connection and access to historical machine data are required. When these are in place, customers benefit from faster troubleshooting, smarter decision-making, and more efficient maintenance scheduling.

The new approach has already been successfully piloted on several overhauls where data connectivity was available. The results confirm both improved service precision and enhanced machine reliability. Looking ahead, Valmet sees strong potential to expand this digitally assisted model to other tissue machine components, such as the headbox and reel.

By combining decades of field expertise with the power of advanced analytics, Advantage ViscoNip Press overhaul with VPC support strengthens Valmet’s role as a trusted service partner - delivering intelligent solutions that support smarter, safer, and more stable tissue production.
