Navigating complexity to help customers thrive

The biggest challenge in this role? “Definitely managing the many different processes I need to understand and be an expert in. There are several ways to produce nonwoven, and I need to master each one to some extent,” Joonas shares. Yet, it’s precisely this complexity that makes the work so interesting.

What’s most rewarding is seeing customers thrive: “When a customer invests in new technology and processes without prior experience, it’s incredibly rewarding to see their satisfaction after commissioning is complete.”

A lifelong passion for technology

Technology has always been a part of Joonas’s life. “Since I was a kid, my dad used to take me to paper mills and explain the different process steps and what each device contributes. That definitely influenced my path into this industry.  As a child, I actually dreamed of becoming a police officer, and even though that didn’t happen, some of my former colleagues have jokingly called me the quality police.”

The importance of staying curious

Asked to describe working at Valmet in one word, the answer is clear: “Invigorating.” The team spirit is all about working together with energy, positivity, and a shared drive to learn and improve every day. “We support each other, enjoy what we do, and stay curious as we build smart and sustainable solutions.”

What about beyond the office?

Outside of work, Joonas has taken up triathlon, finding joy in the challenge and satisfaction of crossing the finish line. “It’s also exciting to learn something completely new, like how to really swim efficiently. That mix of pain, progress, and personal growth keeps me coming back.”
