Valmet’s processes for material compliance

Valmet is committed to the material compliance of our industrial products for the protection of people and the environment. This commitment includes:
complying with material and substance restrictions and communication requirements globally
conducting supply chain due diligence on raw materials and substances
finding replacements for substances of concern
adopting the latest knowledge and best practices, and supporting suppliers to do the same
Engaging our supply chain is essential in this endeavor. Our requirements are set in the Supplier Code of Conduct and direction is given in the Valmet Guidance on Material Compliance for Suppliers and supplier sustainability audits.
Asbestos
Valmet does not and will not manufacture or deliver any products containing asbestos.
Electrical and electronic equipment
Valmet complies with restrictions on hazardous substances (RoHS) in electrical and electronic equipment and has Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) registrations in all countries where relevant.
Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP) and Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
Valmet is committed to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. Valmet does not manufacture or deliver any products containing Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), Perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) or Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS).
Valmet does not use any other persistent organic pollutants at concentration over limit values and we request all our suppliers to follow the set limits.
There are ongoing discussions about restricting or even banning other PFAS categories in many countries. Valmet is actively working on finding replacements for these substances and we are following ongoing discussions to ensure that we are prepared for the changes when they come.
Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)
Valmet controls that all chemicals purchased have required registration and that we do not use any chemicals found on the authorization list or on the restricted substance list for specific use. Chemicals found on the candidate list are replaced when possible.
Similar legislation in other countries is followed accordingly.
Substances of Concern in articles as such or in complex objects (Products) (SCIP)
Valmet requests from all its suppliers that they avoid the use of substances found on the candidate list, or to communicate any needed information. This is then handled accordingly with SCIP notification and communication to our customers.
