Climate Transition Plan

Valmet’s Climate Transition Plan sets a net-zero ambition, outlines a robust and measurable decarbonization plan, and recognizes the commercial potential of sustainability. We are reducing emissions in our own operations, working with our suppliers to lower their impacts, and enabling our customers to achieve major emission reductions through our technologies. We’re committed to achieving the following targets, compared with a 2024 baseline:

Upstream

50%

Share of spend from suppliers with aligned climate targets by 2030

Own operations

60%

Emission reduction in own operations by 2030

Own operations

Net-zero

by 2040

Downstream

60%

Share of sales from net-zero and circular economy aligned solutions and services by 2040

Levers to achieve the targets

Upstream

  • Drive emission reductions in supply chain by engaging suppliers
  • Increase share of low-carbon emissions steel in own foundries and purchases
  • Optimize logistics to reduce emissions
  • Reduce business travel emissions

Upstream 2024 baseline is 9%.

Own operations

  • Investment to replace fossil fuels with renewables in own locations
  • Implement energy and material efficiency improvements in own locations
  • Increase purchases of fossil-free electricity and district heat

Downstream

  • Commercial excellence in circularity, resource efficiency, and net-zero solutions and services
  • Collaboration with customers to reduce climate impacts across industries
  • Accelerate sustainable product development and improve energy efficiency of technologies

Accelerating a future that works for the planet

We support the broad range of industries we serve to tackle global challenges such as decarbonization, circularity, and resource efficiency. At Valmet, we believe that technology and innovation are essential to driving this transition. As a global technology leader in process industries, we understand the scale of our impact. Our technologies and services influence how resources are used, how products are manufactured, and how materials circulate. This is where our contribution to a more sustainable future becomes tangible.

Climate change is one of the most urgent planetary challenges, and through this Climate Transition Plan we are addressing it head-on.

Driving change where it matters most

At Valmet, we are committed to accelerating the transformation of industries towards a regenerative tomorrow. Climate action is embedded in our strategy because we know that a sustainable future is also a competitive one. Valmet’s Climate Transition Plan, defined in 2025, brings our climate work into one clear and measurable framework, showing how we reduce emissions across our value chain and where we can create the greatest impact.

As a leader in industrial transformation, our goal is to guide the industries we serve toward a net-zero, circular economy that respects planetary boundaries and protects nature for future generations.

Turning ambition into measurable progress

Efforts to reduce climate impacts begin within our own operations, while collaborating with our customers and suppliers can influence broader systemic change across the value chain. The long-term success of our business and that of our customers relies on the health of nature and the vital ecosystem services it provides.

As part of this journey, we have set targets that will guide our actions across our operations and value chain. They reflect our strong ambition to decarbonize, collaborate across our value chain, and our commitment to continuous improvement.

We’ve set ambitious, science-based targets to reduce emissions across our value chain and help our customers do the same. We are committed to the Paris Agreement and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in our own operations by 2040 and across the value chain by 2050.
