Valmet introduces new electric actuator with mechanical spring back-up to the Valvcon product offering
Valmet announces the introduction of a new electric actuator, the Valvcon™ Quarterback™ QB-series. It features an integrated mechanical spring back-up for quarter-turn applications and is designed to drive valves and dampers to a predefined fail position after a loss of external power, helping protect the process and equipment.
Integrated mechanical spring back-up for defined fail position
In many quarter-turn applications, spring-return actuator solutions can be large and heavy and may limit configuration choices after installation. The Valvcon QB-series provides a more compact option and supports common installation needs through multi-voltage input power, on/off or position control, and a field-reversible spring-release direction.
The QB-series accepts 115 VAC, 230 VAC (50/60 Hz, 1PH), and 24 VDC power as standard. It can be configured for on/off control or modulating operation, depending on the application.
The mechanical spring back-up uses internal spring pack(s) that release automatically on power loss to drive the actuator to the selected fail position. The spring pack(s) can be reversed to select the fail position in the field.

Stocking requirements can be reduced because the same unit can be used for AC and DC applications and reconfigured in the field for either fail clockwise or fail counterclockwise. Universal control inputs also support installation for on/off or position control applications.
