Valmet will deliver an air emission control system upgrade to Forestia AS’s chipboard plant in Norway. In the upgrade, the plant’s Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP) will be equipped with a new flotation unit, improving the plant’s wastewater treatment process.

The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the first quarter 2025. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

The delivery will take place at the end of the third quarter of 2025.

With the new flotation unit and process upgrade, the plant’s wastewater treatment process will be enhanced, enabling improved environmental performance through cleaner flue gases and efficient energy recovery. Additionally, the wastewater system will require less maintenance in the future, resulting in reduced costs and increased plant availability.

We consider the flotation unit as a vital and integral part of our wastewater treatment system, and the investment also supports our sustainability approach. We appreciate Valmet’s technological expertise and support so far and look forward to continuing the cooperation during and after the installation,” says Kristian Hanssen, Managing Director at Forestia AS.

The delivery is a great example of how Valmet can serve their customers throughout the entire equipment lifecycle by upgrading the worn-out or outdated systems to the latest technologies.

“We are happy to deliver the new flotation unit to Forestia AS. The technology was jointly tested with Valmet’s pilot unit at customer facility before the investment decision, and our experts will also continue supporting the customer with the flotation unit operation and spare parts when needed,” says Teppo Paakki, Sales Manager, Energy Services, EMEA Area at Valmet.

Delivery's technical information

WESP internal water handling system removes particles from the process and is a vital part of the plant’s air emission control. With the new flotation unit, the total wastewater particle separation can reach 90-95% efficiency, and it significantly reduces the operator maintenance activities.
