Scrubgrass Generating facility has selected Valmet DNAe automation system to enhance plant efficiency and support its environmental goals
Valmet has received an order from Scrubgrass Generating for the Valmet DNAe distributed control system (DCS). The system will support improved efficiency and more streamlined operations at the Scrubgrass facility in Pennsylvania, USA.

By modernizing the control infrastructure, the Scrubgrass facility will be better equipped to manage its waste coal combustion process efficiently, reducing environmental impact while supporting the high energy demands of cryptocurrency mining.
"We’re excited about the synergy of having both our boiler and control system under one roof. Partnering with a provider that understands both our plant and control system is essential,” says Scrubgrass Site Manager. “By bringing these systems together, we can streamline operations and simplify the management of our power plant.
“The Valmet DNAe system gives Scrubgrass a modern, virtualized, high-availability control system for higher reliability and a clear path for continued optimized performance,” says Marissa Davey, Automation Manager, North America, Valmet. “This project demonstrates how implementing advanced automation can help energy producers evolve to meet the demands of the modern energy markets.”
The order is included in Valmet’s orders received for the second quarter of 2025. The value of the order will not be disclosed. Delivery and commissioning are scheduled for Q3 2026.
Delivery’s technical information
The project will replace the facility’s legacy maxDNA control system with the latest Valmet DNAe Automation System. The delivery includes a new high availability virtualized control system, new burner management system, Valmet DNAe User Interface and User Experience Design Services, and boiler fuel optimizer.
The Valmet DNAe Automation System will provide a unified platform for process control, engineering, and information management. The upgrade will improve system reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance advanced diagnostics and remote support. The system’s open architecture ensures long-term scalability and integration with future digitalization initiatives.
