Muoto products produced with Valmet 3D Fiber technology piloted at Valmet’s Jyväskylä location

Muoto products, produced at the joint demo plant of Valmet and Metsä Spring in Äänekoski, Finland, were piloted at Valmet’s Jyväskylä location. Over the course of a month, various Muoto products were tested in three Food & Co restaurants in cooperation with Metsä Spring and Compass Group.

During the pilot, Metsä Spring's uncoated disposable plates were used for breakfast and lunch service, and laminated containers were utilized for pre-packed meals. The feedback from the users was excellent. The products were perceived as high-quality, sturdy thanks to their multilayer structure, and resistant to both heat and grease.

“It is important to conduct market testing and collect feedback on Muoto products and their functionality in end use during product development. This helps us to optimize product features for different use cases and to build a product portfolio that meets customer needs,” comments Tarja Heikkilä, Product Manager at Metsä Spring.

The pilot provided valuable information regarding the functionality of the products and how they were received among users. “We are pleased to be able to show our colleagues the results achieved using the technology we developed. The feedback has been extremely positive, and the functionality and quality of the products have impressed colleagues and fostered confidence in future commercial success,” comments Juho Pyrrö, Head of 3D Fiber at Valmet.

Compass Group’s Restaurant Manager, Satu Liimatainen describes the experience from the restaurant’s point of view: “The products were very successful in terms of design. We received a lot of verbal feedback from customers about appearance, sturdiness, and ease of use. The containers that could be closed with a lid film were very neat and easy to use. As porridge bowls, the products worked excellently and did not let any liquid seep through. The feedback we received was extremely positive and sparked great interest and discussion among customers.”
