Hongta Renheng Paper Co., Ltd, located in Zhuhai, China, has on April 3, 2007, successfully started up their BM 2 after a calender area rebuild supplied by Metso Paper. In the rebuild, the existing machine calender was replaced with a new ValZone metal belt calender, which is the first in China and the second in the world. With the metal belt calender, the mill will raise their board quality to a totally new level and produce one of the premium quality coated board brands in the world.

ValZone metal belt calender represents the latest development of long nip calendering and demonstrates Metso’s technological leadership in the area. The calender features a one-meter-long machine-direction calendering zone, formed between a heated metal belt and a heated thermo roll. Its extended dwell time is approx. 100 times longer than with a conventional roll nip. High thermal energy and web moisture enable very effective plasticization of the web. This provides significant benefits in terms of surface properties: formation scale smoothness will improve, resulting in extremely smooth surfaces and enhanced visual appearance on both sides of the board. For a converter, this means excellent printability, even ink setting, and a decreased print mottling tendency. Furthermore, the calendering is done with relatively low pressure, resulting in high bulk and stiffness.

Zhuhai S.E.Z. Hongta Renheng Paper Co., Ltd. was established in 1991 by Yunnan Hongta Group and Yanlord Industrial. The company is specialized in the production of high-grade coated cartonboard used in the packaging of tobacco, pharmaceuticals, food and cosmetics.
