Valmet celebrates Global Volunteer Month with local sustainability initiatives across North America
As part of Global Volunteer Month this April, Valmet employees across North America stepped up to support sustainability and give back to their communities through a series of local volunteer efforts. From tree planting and recycling drives to office greening and charity collections, Valmet teams demonstrated how small, meaningful actions can contribute to a healthier planet and stronger communities.
Tree planting and recycling in Atlanta, Georgia
In celebration of National Arbor Day, the Atlanta team hosted a tree planting event using kits from One Tree Planted, enhancing biodiversity and beautifying the office grounds.
Team members also volunteered at an Earth Day Recycling event at Coolray Field, assisting with the collection and organization of hard-to-recycle materials. Over 1,000 carloads of paint cans were safely processed, emphasizing Valmet’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Community clean-up in Bedford, New Hampshire
In Bedford, employees organized an Earth Day clean-up to improve their local surroundings. As part of the initiative, team members also distributed flower seed packets, encouraging continued environmental stewardship at home.
Office greening and charitable recycling in Biddeford, Maine
The Biddeford office focused on indoor sustainability and charitable giving:
- Workplace wellness: Employees refreshed and repotted office plants to boost air quality and workplace morale.
- Bottle and can redemption: Led by Stephanie Lauer, the team collected returnables to support the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, through Maine’s redemption program.
- Aluminum tab collection: Organized by Debbie Cormier, this effort benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities and received enthusiastic support across the facility.
These local actions reflect Valmet’s global commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community engagement. By participating in hands-on volunteer efforts, our employees continue to bring our environmental values to life—one tree, bottle, and clean-up at a time.

Valmet's global social responsibility program
Valmet has expanded its global social responsibility program initiated in 2020 with new area-specific local projects around the world.
Valmet’s social responsibility program is part of the company’s sustainability agenda implementation. The program is based on three themes promoting science, nature and equal opportunities: ‘Towards the future with science’, ‘Protecting the planet for next generations’ and ‘Equal opportunities for wellbeing’.
Based on these themes, several local projects in Valmet’s operating areas around the world have been selected to the program. Valmet’s local personnel has participated in the planning and preparation of the projects, and the final selection has been made by employee voting.
