A new life for worn-out profile roll shells at Siam Kraft Industry Wangsala Mill
The Wangsala Mill, established in 1989 and located in Tha Muang District, Kanchanaburi, Thailand is one of the main manufacturing facilities of Siam Kraft Industry Co., Ltd. The customer sought a solution for PM6 and PM7 press section profile rolls, which were causing significant production and maintenance issues.
The inner surfaces of the Wangsala mill’s PM6 and PM7 press section profile roll shells (swimming type of deflection-compensated roll) were worn and damaged to the extent that the rolls could not operate reliably at their full nip load. Additionally, the customer had to perform roll maintenance more frequently due to internal axial seal wear caused by the worn shell inner surface.
Investing in new shells was considered too costly and time-consuming. After detailed inspection and consideration, Valmet proposed a solution to repair the worn/damaged shells and restore the rolls’ operational capability by using a special oversized axial and end seals.
Valmet’s swimming roll shell repair solution with oversize seals solved our profile roll issue. This solution offered great savings and fast delivery. Overall, we’re very satisfied with the results.
