When curiosity meets opportunity, great things can happen. For Marta Giordani, joining Valmet was about more than starting a career — it was about finding a place where growth, collaboration, and purpose come together every day.

An international journey of learning and growth

Originally from Italy, Marta decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Human Resources and Talent Development in Madrid, Spain. Soon after, she joined Valmet’s Global People Operations team as an HR Trainee, supporting the SEMEA Employment Lifecycle department from the Madrid office.

“What inspired me to join Valmet was its international and dynamic environment,” Marta shares. “The chance to work with colleagues from different countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds creates an atmosphere that challenges and inspires me.”

From the very beginning, the Trainee Program offered her an environment that encouraged initiative and learning. “Each day brings new experiences and opportunities to grow,” she explains. “I’ve developed a solid grasp of HR operations and administrative processes and gained confidence in managing complex tasks. This journey is helping me build a strong foundation for my future in HR, while also deepening my appreciation for the human side of business.”

Making an impact through teamwork

In her role, Marta supports employees across Spain — in Zaragoza, Bilbao, Barcelona, and Madrid — with everything from payroll and onboarding to contract changes and retirements. Her work ensures that every stage of the employee experience runs smoothly.

“I enjoy the variety of my work. One day I might be helping with onboarding, another day coordinating training needs or supporting well-being initiatives,” she says. “I also love participating in job fairs with my team. It’s a great opportunity to connect with new people, showcase Valmet’s business, and attract fresh talent to our company.”

These experiences have given her valuable insights into teamwork and the culture that makes Valmet unique. “I’ve built strong, trust-based relationships with my colleagues. Everyone is approachable and supportive, which creates a great environment for collaboration and learning.”

Proud moments and meaningful experiences

When asked about a memorable moment from her trainee experience, one stands out clearly. “The Trainee Event in Portugal was unforgettable,” she recalls. “Trainees from across Europe came together to present their Valmet Business Challenges, explore the Operational Model Renewal, and discuss professional growth.”

The event concluded with a visit to Valmet’s Ovar factory — an experience that left a lasting impression. “Seeing Valmet’s innovation up close and meeting so many talented peers in person made me feel proud to be part of a company that invests in its people from the very beginning.”

Contributing to Valmet’s mission and values

For Marta, working at Valmet means being part of something bigger. “My work contributes to one of Valmet’s core values: People,” she explains. “I focus on fostering teamwork, employee wellbeing, and cultural diversity by helping create a collaborative and stimulating environment.”

She believes that when people feel valued and supported, they are more motivated, engaged, and ready to grow. “When that happens, everyone benefits — the employees, the teams, and the company as a whole.”

Advice for future trainees

Looking back on her experience, Marta encourages anyone considering a career at Valmet to take the leap. “Valmet is a company that values its people and supports their personal growth,” she says. “I’ve always felt supported by my manager and colleagues — they’ve encouraged me to grow, welcomed my opinions, and made me feel heard.”

She adds that Valmet promotes a culture of inclusion, flexibility, and continuous development. “It’s a place where you’re empowered to take initiative, balance your personal and professional life, and be yourself.”

If she had to describe Valmet in three words, Marta would choose international, sustainable, and people-oriented. “You get to collaborate with colleagues from all over the world, contribute to a more sustainable future, and work in an environment that truly cares about employee wellbeing.”

What inspired me to join Valmet was its international and dynamic environment. The chance to work with colleagues from different countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds creates an atmosphere that challenges and inspires me.
