Customer case:

New sizer roll cover boosts performance at Palm Wörth in Germany

Dec 16, 2022

Palm Wörth and Valmet set clear targets for improving the sizer’s overall performance. The current rubber roll covers were replaced with Valmet’s special polyurethane Sizer Roll Cover CF resulting in longer running intervals, better machine performance and less paper quality issues.

New sizer roll cover boosts performance at Palm Wörth in Germany
With this wear rate, operating a Valmet Sizer Roll Cover CF with a running interval of more than a year is realistic.”

Summary

Location Papierfabrik Palm’s Wörth mill in Germany
Customer target Improve the sizer’s overall performance and availability, reduce breaks in the paper web and improve paper quality.
Solution
  • Replacement of current rubber covers with Valmet’s special polyurethane Sizer Roll Cover CF.
  • Optimization of cover hardness and thickness. The new covers were made harder than the old rubber covers, which helped achieve excellent runnability and provided potential for improved starch efficiency with optimal nip pressure.
Results
  • Running interval of the roll cover has increased from less than 100 days to more than 200 days – and there was nearly no wear.
  • An even nip profile from less wear resulting in even moisture and tension profile of the paper web, avoiding wrinkles and winding issues.
  • Higher machine availability, better paper quality.
  • Savings and reduced CO2 emissions due to less transport and grinding needs.
