Description: This course will give you an overall understanding of the purpose and function of each area in the pulp mill including the mills supplementary systems. The areas described in this course are: Woodhandling, cooking, fiberline, drying and baling, evaporation, recovery boiler and white liquor plant. The course also describes the plants supplementary systems and which impact they have on the plant. There are the water, effluent and steam systems, the chemical handling of the plant and the treatment of non condensable gases. All which are typically referred to as Balance of plant.

Objective: After this course the participant should have an overall understanding of the areas and supplementary system of the pulp mill.

Audience: For all personnel working at the pulp mill.

Pre-requisites: This is an introduction to the mill wide systems and assumes that you have basic knowledge in pulp making.
